Well the last blog I posted was a loooooooong time ago - I'm so sorry! But, I've since had my second child (another wee boy!) and have zero time to write a blog - and I was never very good at it anyway!! I am still very much working and super busy with weddings for this year already. I had my busiest year yet last year with 55 weddings! If you want to see recent work then please head over to my Facebook page or my Instagram
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Ariel Tejada makeup masterclass, hosted by Pout Patrol, in Manchester. The class was held in the gorgeous Innside Hotel which is owned by the Melia hotel group. I stayed in another Melia Hotel in Tenerife last year and their hotels are so gorgeous, lots of beautiful plants and decor in the reception areas. Had a lovely rhubarb gin & tonic whilst waiting and it was served in what I can only describe as a fishbowl - wasn't complaining! I arrived early and there was already quite a queue forming, everyone was just as keen to get a good seat! After waiting about an hour and a half i was checked in and handed a goodie bag which I restrained myself from looking at as I promised my sister in law I'd go through it all with her when I got back to their house later. After embarrassingly/unknowingly sitting next to some of the girls from Geordie Shore and being asked to move from the reserved seats, I sat (elsewhere!) and waited for it to start. There was about 100 people there including Holly and Sophie from Geordie Shore, someone who I'm told was in Love Island (Kaydy?) and two girls from Coronation Street. Two girls who have the makeup salon Pout Patrol then welcomed everyone and introduced Ariel. I have followed him on Instagram for about a year now, which isn't too much longer that when he started to do Kylie Jenner's makeup. For those of you who don't know him, Ariel started doing makeup at age 18 and now at 21 is Kylie Jenner's makeup artist doing her makeup almost every day of the week, and also managing to fit in makeup for her Mum and sisters and other celebrities such as Chrissy Tiegan. Ariel received a DM on Instagram from Kylie asking if he was free to do her makeup for an event and the rest is history! I think a lot of people think of the Kardashians/Jenners as being very heavily made up, and images of Kim with the dramatic cream contouring a couple of years ago likely stick in their minds. But Ariel's makeup style isn't like that. The best way for me to describe his makeup is 'beautiful'. It's soft, there's no harsh lines or heavy sculpting, no crazy colours or trendy Instagram looks. It's all about beautiful glowing skin, usually based around bronze and gold tones on the eyes and neutral lips, very 'red carpet'. That's not to say there is not a lot of makeup used in these looks, but the way he applies it makes it so soft and stunning. I found it funny to be in a room surrounded by heavily contoured, 'Instaglam' girls when Ariel was talking about how that is not his vibe at all. I'm hopeful his makeup looks challenge people to change their way of thinking with makeup and realise you don't need every makeup trend on your face and don't need to look the like girls on Instagram all the time. There's nothing wrong with that kind of look on occasion but I absolutely love softer, more beautiful makeup which enhances the natural beauty and Ariel's style is just exactly that. Ariel demonstrated a stunning 'day glam' look (on the most gorgeous model I've ever seen) and talked about his career so far. To think how much he has achieved in three years and at such a young age is so inspiring. He has focused on his dreams and through persistence they have been achieved. The first look was absolutely stunning, a beautiful soft gold eye with no lashes or liner, glowing skin and a nude, understated lip. He then showed how he would change that look very quickly from a day to night look. Ariel said that often if he's doing Kylie's makeup, they can start as early as 6am and will do the above look as a 'day glam'. They then get to early evening and she might have an event on but they only have maybe 20 minutes to do the makeup, so he adds to the makeup she's had on from the morning. He added darker bronze and warm brown tones to the eyes, black liner in the water line and big lashes. He made the skin look a bit fuller coverage by applying more powder, blush and contour, lots more highlight, and finally a slightly stronger yet still nude lip. It was amazing to watch him change the look so much with little tweaks and so quickly. Once it was finished I grabbed a gorgeous cupcake with his face on it (obviously), waited for my brother to pick me up, and went to their home to finally go through my goodie bag with my sister in law. Ariel's work was absolutely amazing and I feel really privileged to have been at his masterclass. He is super talented and such a lovely, down to earth guy. I really learnt a lot from it and hope to put some of his techniques into practice on my clients, especially my brides.
We weren't allowed to film him or take photos whilst he worked, but we did get a chance to take photos of each look once finished which I've added to this blog. I'll write another blog soon about the contents of my goodie bag, keep an eye out for it as it was amazing!!! Thanks Pout Patrol and Ariel for a wonderful night. You can find Ariel on Instagram @makeupbyariel xxx PS here are the professional photos taken and uploaded to Ariel's instagram, stunning! Here's a few quick iPhone snaps of my client Kelli's wedding at Rufflets at the weekend. Hope you like. Comment if you'd like to know makeup used etc xI did some last minute Halloween makeup for my niece yesterday. She is only 9 but always wants to go as 'something dead' so this year she went as a dead doll. I had no facepaints so this was all done using makeup and was very rushed, but I really like it! Hope you do too! XI just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have saved/pinned the image below on Pinterest, I've just hit 4000 pins and am completely blown away by this!!
Xxx Hi Guys,
I've been working flat out with busy wedding season over the Summer, it's been great! I will try to get my blog/website updated as soon as things quieten down a little bit and I get a moment to breathe! I'm wanting to ask a big favour of you all, and ask that you please vote for me in the Scottish Wedding Awards!! Anyone can vote for me, so you can vote whether you've had your makeup done by me or just like what you see!! The link is below, it would mean SO much to me!! Thank you all xxx CLICK HERE TO VOTE - The Scottish Wedding Awards Sometimes when my toddler sleeps I like to have a wee play, this was a result of one of these play sessions! Gorgeous pinky/tangerine lips with a shiny glow and a splash of gloss.
I used: MAC Dynamo Pro Longwear Lip pencil. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Morocco MAC Pigments in Melon and Lily White (limited edition) MAC clear Gloss x I was so delighted to be involved in the Summer edition of the Scottish Wedding Directory magazine for a bridal head pieces photoshoot. I was working with photographer Laura Tiliman who I've worked before with when I had my cover shoot for the magazine (she is really amazing) and the absolutely STUNNING model Linda Young, who is one of the most professional and talented models I've ever worked with. The brief was for the skin and eyes to be natural and fresh, with gold tones to the eyes and no liner with a strong coral lip. We then changed this to a slightly stronger eye with a subtle black flicked eyeliner and a strong dark berry lip. We used a third lip somewhere in between too which is in a couple of the pictures. I've posted the full set over on my Facebook page but had to reduce the quality to upload onto Facebook, so I've put a couple of my favourite higher quality images below. I'm so in love with this photoshoot, I hope you like it too x Ooh another post from me within the same week! Here's my favourite looks from the recent prom makeups I've done. I see a trend of nude lips at the moment, lovely x
hello, I've been a bit awol from the blog again, so so busy with work and it's crazy how much of my time a one year old takes up!! I wanted to post a video of a recent prom makeup I did. I posted it on my Facebook page but Facebook reduces the quality of videos and I've not quite fathomed how to work around that yet (feel free to tell me how in the comments?!). So hoping the quality is a bit better on here. I decided to do a really short video rather than photo to try to show the sparkly glitter as it never seems to show up well on my iPhone pictures (I know, I need to use my 'proper' camera....). So, here is some prom makeup I did on the pretty Amy this week. Hope you like X |
